Santa Fe Depot

The Spanish architectural influence is evident throughout the city. Here's an example in a shot of the historic Santa Fe Depot.

Downtown Reflection

Lots of construction has been happening downtown for the last several years. I liked the way this old building looked when reflected in a new building.

For the tourists

San Diego is where close to 30,000,000 people each year come to vacation. We have a lot of industry that caters to the tourists - here is a cycle rental spot near the cruise ship terminal.

Flags: Sea World

Another shot of a flag at half-staff. This one is at Sea World outisde of the Hospitality Center. You can see some of the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales. They are on exhibit at the Anheuser-Busch Hospitality Center’s Clydesdale Hamlet, and occasionally the entire eight-horse team can be seen parading through the park, with the traditional Dalmatian on board.

Flags: County Administration Building

The flags that fly in front of the San Diego County Administration Building are the US flag, the flag of the State of California and the flag of the County of San Diego.

This photo was taken in Balboa Park when the flags were flying at half-staff during the period of mourning for former President Gerald Ford.

This flag is atop the Pacific Western Bank building, with a reflection of some of the skyline of downtown San Diego on it.

We've got a lot of flags flying over our fair city. Here's the first in a series of flag shtos. This one was taken flying over the USS Midway aircraft carrier, now a museum.

Another view of Lake Murray... many homes have a view of the lake, but none quite as impressive as this one.

Flowers Day 7: Just Pretty

I found this bright daisy on a walk around Lake Murray.

When I first moved out here from Minnesota, the idea of cacti on the shores of a manmade lake was very strange. We (me and Lake Murray) have changed a lot since then, and I have grown to really appreciate the beauty.

Flowers Day 6: Typical San Diego Sight

Ice Plant always makes me think of San Diego in the spring.

Every spring when I was young and growing up in Minnesota, we visited my grandparents who lived in Valley Center. I remember driving up the 163 and seeing the roadsides covered with lovely flowers.

I didn't know then that they also help keep the fires at bay during our inevitable fire season.

We saw this pretty daisy while walking through Alcazar Garden in Balboa Park.

Flowers Day 4: QBC

Quail Botanical Gardens is home to many exotic flowers and plants. The common California Poppy can hold it's head high amongst all of them.

Flowers Day 3: Zone 24

Sunset magazine says "Zone 24: If Zone 17 in Northern California represents the typical San Francisco climate, Zone 24 exemplifies San Diego. And while it, too, runs along the coastline, and both are marked by cool marine climate and many foggy days, the San Diego zone is warmer."

San Diego's climate is perfect for growing roses - many grow throughout the year.

Flowers Day 2: Flower Fields in Carlsbad

Hundreds and hundreds of beautiful ranunculus in pink, red, white, yellow, purple, orange... and even mixtures of colors surround you when you visit the Flower Fields in Carlsbad.

Flowers Day 1: Happy Easter!

Looks like we grow some odd flowers here in Sunny San Diego! This is a good start for our week of flowers.

On a clear night...

.. you can see forever! Or at least it seemed like it. The stars were certainly beautiful.

Cruisin' San Diego

San Diego is a busy cruise ship port. We often see as many as 3 cruise ships in port at any one time. Today there is just one, Celebrity's Mercury.

Familiar Sight at the Zoo

These guys are staples at our world famous San Diego Zoo. I always think their colors are amazing, and they look a little bit other-worldly.

Lifeboat in the Sun

San Diego has a beautiful harbor. Here's a view of the lifeboat for the USS Berkeley, one of the ships in the maritime musuem.

Lunch!

We walk on the bay often at lunch and see many of these little guys. While they may not make a meal for us, the seagulls can regularly be seen trying to catch a bite!
